A crime prevention scheme called Horsewatch was first established in the West Midlands after the theft of five ponies in January 1991, and has evolved throughout the UK in response to the marked increase in the theft of horses, ponies, saddlery, horseboxes and horse trailers in recent years.

Horsewatch is similar to Neighbourhood Watch and aims to encourage horse owners to work together in local groups in partnership with the Police to deter equine-related crime, and operates on an entirely voluntary non-profit basis funded by members' events and sponsored support from local businesses.

Horsewatch is FREE to join and you can register your horses and ponies with us via Solihull Police who will keep your details on file, and in the unfortunate event of a property theft or one of your animals being attacked or stolen we will distribute the relevant details to Horsewatch groups nationwide.

Several disturbing attacks on horses and ponies in some Counties have reinforced the real need for horse owners to protect their animals and property and be extra vigilant for strangers acting suspiciously.

The success of Horsewatch is wholly due to the efforts and commitment shown by its individual members in co-operation with the Police and in line with Codes of practice and conduct defined by the Constabulary.

Advice with regard to security of stables or horseboxes and marking of horses or property is available on our website; for further assistance please contact the Crime Prevention Officer at your local Police station.

If you need urgent Police assistance always dial 999
